There are only two kinds of people in the world…and other lies

How is your week going? Good, I hope.

You're One of a Kind

You’re One of a Kind

We have not only heard “There are only two kinds of people,” we have probably said it our selves. Not only have we heard it and said it, but this false dichotomy has so infested our society that it’s like living among rat fleas during the plague years.

“You’re either with us or you’re with the terrorists.”-George Bush

Maybe I’m not with either one of you?

You have two choices______ or ________. Pick one-right now! Don’t think!

I was just told on Twitter that I am a douchebag because  I questioned a guy who said that all Muslims are just like ISIS. His profile said he was a Conservative Catholic. I asked him if he thinks 1.6 billion Muslims are exactly alike. I asked him if all Christians are exactly alike. He cussed me out. Then he called me a douchebag.

When people who claim to be Christians do this, I tell them that’s not a nice way to talk to a retired missionary. I also told him to be sure to go to confession and repent of hating.

We can do better than “two kinds” even though we unconsciously think in terms of our body parts, as in “On one hand…..but on the other hand……” Here’s my simple fix: We have five fingers on each hand! When ever someone offers you two choices, deliberately come up with five choices! I’m serious. There are more than five, but five would be a whole lot better than two, especially when you don’t even get to pick the two in the first place.

FIVE I tell you. :)

FIVE I tell you. 🙂

So here are FIVE (count ’em five) quotes on “two kinds of people”:

“There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded.”
Mark Twain

“There are two kinds of people: those who think they can, and those who think they can’t, and they’re both right.”
Henry Ford

“There are two types of people – those who come into a room and say, “Well, here I am!” and those who come in and say, “Ah, there you are.””
Frederick L. Collins

“There are two types of people in this world: those who have the ability to assemble Ikea furniture and those who do not.”
Unknown

“There are two kinds of people in the world: Those who believe there are two kinds of people in the world and those who don’t.”
Robert Benchley
