I’m in the middle of my third picture book for beginning readers, in the Critical Thinking Series. This one is on the philosophical question “How do I know anything?” aka epistemology.
This is a very important question with a very startling answer. Rene Descartes, the Father of Modern Philosophy, said, “I think therefore I am.” Of course, he also said, “There is nothing so strange and unbelievable that it has not already been said by one philosopher or another.” Just to confirm this, David Hume came along and said he could prove Descartes didn’t exist, even if if he thought he did.
This illustration is of Old Mr. Cricket, who first appeared in Softy and the Tiny Princesses. He’s sort of an insect version of Lao Tzu, the Chinese sage. This is the first time Old Mr. Cricket smiled and I thought he was rather cute smiling, so I’m sharing him with you.
Three Minute Philosophy: David Hume>warning: profanity (which, in the case of Hume may be a perfectly normal reaction. 🙂
