In Times of Trouble, Grab a Goat

For years I’ve been researching conspiracy theories and wondering…”Why?” Why now? Why so many? Why

Scapegoat

Scapegoat

so much hatred toward one group or another? Why so much fear and loathing? Of course, people secretly plan illegal things every day (definition of conspiracy) but this was different.

I never suspected Joseph McCarthy would supply the answer. When McCarthy first began his commie-hunting he offered this as a justification: “How can we account for our present position unless we believe that men high in this government are concerting to deliver us to disaster.” (1)

How, indeed, could we account for our present situation? In 2008 the economy of the world crashed. No one said it out loud, but our version of capitalism had failed. Shhh. We’ll just bail them out and carry on. In 2008 the U.S. was fighting two wars. No one said it out loud, but the wars were being lost. Shhh. We’ll just keep fighting and make up some credible exit strategy. Most people were not getting ahead, no matter how hard they worked, and many people had lost their jobs, their homes and their faith in the American Dream.

How can we account for our present situation?

Unless we believe…

Men high up…

Are conspiring to deliver us to disaster…

We’d like a short answer, please, something simple. Identify these men delivering us to disaster! Liberals, conservatives, Neocons, immigrants, the Illuminati, Islamists, banksters, the New World Order, the UN and moms on welfare were all served up at the Scapegoat Buffet. Many chose their entree and ran with it, some even making a career out of it.

The scapegoat is found in the Bible. When trouble came, they assumed there was sin in the camp. To keep trouble away they had to get rid of their sins. So they grabbed a goat:

“When Aaron has finished making atonement for the Most Holy Place, the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall bring forward the live goat. He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites—all their sins—and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness. Leviticus 16:20-22 A scapegoat once found his way home (horrors) so they started to take the goat away and push him off a cliff just to make sure. The scapegoat has to go-be impeached, deported, imprisoned, executed.

How can we account for this…unless we believe…someone else is to blame? Our incomes are shrinking, our culture is degenerating, strangers are about, our very way of life is threatened. Someone powerful is secretly plotting. What do they want? (To answer what someone else wants we can only project our own ideas onto them) They want to take our property, dominate and enslave us.

It is impossible to convince the guest at the Scapegoat Buffet that no one is going to take their property, dominate them or enslave them. Because it has happened before, only it was our ancestors who took property, dominated and enslaved others. It can happen. It did happen. How to get rid of the sins in the camp? Grab a goat.
